Stephen grew up in Rhode Island and began taking hiking trips with family and friends in the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire at an early age. It was in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, during a summer job in college as an Outdoor Trip Leader, where Stephen discovered his passion for climbing, skiing, and guiding. He spent the next few summers exploring the local climbing areas in New Hampshire while still in college and was instantly hooked. After graduation, and a brief stint playing professional ice hockey, Stephen moved west to Ketchum, Idaho to pursue a career in the mountains.
Stephen spent several seasons working for the Sun Valley Ski Patrol while climbing and skiing as much as possible during his time off, before making the transition to full-time guiding.
Stephen now splits his time between the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Idaho, and the Northeast and draws on both his extensive experience and passion for the mountains while guiding.
