The Sickle is THE classic ski descent in the Sawtooths. Featured alongside McGown in the 50 Classic Ski Descents, the Sickle is a testpiece for steep skiers. It features all the attributes that make skiing in the Sawtooths special – a long, flat skin through thick lodgepole, an interminable bootpack, puckering steeps, and an exit that takes almost as long as the approach. But making turns cradled between the deep rock walls is worth every step. It can be done in a long day, but is better tackled with a high camp in Fishhook Creek or from one of the (sort of) nearby huts.
