The North Couloir on McGown Peak was included in the 50 Classics Ski Descents of North America for good reason. As one of the classic Sawtooth couloirs that can be done in a reasonable day, it should be high on everyone’s tick list. Snowmobiles are often used to reach Stanley Lake, but it’s still a healthy approach. Slope angles exceed 50 degrees near the top, and surmounting the top cornice can often be the crux.
