As a military brat, Shawn grew up all over the western U.S. never living in one place for more than three years. He began climbing in 1992 while working in the Tetons and has climbed extensively throughout the western U.S. He earned his MS degree in Geology at Northern Arizona University and is a licensed professional geologist in Idaho. Shawn is a geology professor at the College of Southern Idaho where he also teaches rock climbing and whitewater rafting courses. Shawn mainly guides for SMG at City of Rocks and lives in Twin Falls with his wife and three children.
