Niels Meyer grew up in Chicago and always planned to move west after experiencing the Rocky Mountains during summer backpacking trips with his family. After a few years attending, leaving, and returning to college–while traveling around the world and working (as a farmer, butcher, janitor, carpenter, and sheep herder)–Niels graduated from Prescott College with a major in Small Scale Agriculture and a minor in Adventure Education. Post-college, Niels moved to Idaho where he began his guiding career. For a few years, he spent his summers guiding alpine climbing in the North Cascades and his winters ski guiding in the Sawtooth Mountains before making Ketchum, ID his full-time home. Niels is an AMGA (American Mountain Guides Association) Assistant Ski guide, Apprentice Rock, and Alpine guide as well as a Wilderness EMT. In addition to guiding, Niels is a volunteer Firefighter/ EMT for the Ketchum Fire Department. Though he never thought he’d settle down, Niels has found his place living in a cabin in Ketchum and going on mountain adventures with his wife Courtney and Idaho Shag Baxter.
