After an incredible December left us with 150% of normal snowpack, the snow shut off for the first part of January and left us wondering if the early winter was an aberration. Looks like it was merely a lull as a stormy pattern is back upon us. A surprise storm earlier this week left our northern mountains with more snow than forecast – 14″ in the Sawtooths! Now we’re back to deep powder conditions with more snow on deck this week.
Although January is a hectic month for us with a busy avalanche education schedule, a few SMG folks managed to get out to check out the conditions. And the conclusion was unanimous: deep powder + fairly stable conditions = as good as it gets! Check it out for yourself:
