Based at 8000 ft on the flanks of Williams Peak in the northern Sawtooth Range, the legendary Williams Peak Hut offers some of the best hut-accessed backcountry ski terrain anywhere. Wildly popular for its broad variety of terrain, the Williams Peak Hut is sure to please novice skiers, powder hounds, and big mountain aficionados alike. Powder glades, alpine bowls, extreme couloirs, and high mountain tours are all available right out the doorstep. Ever stood in Stanley and dreamed of skiing the mountains towering over town? This is how you do it!

Our 16 and 20 foot yurts provide a warm and cozy base for your ski explorations. Handcrafted by SMG founder Kirk Bachman and installed in 1986, these yurts were some of the first used in North America as a backcountry skiing shelter. The hut is fully stocked with warm woodstoves, kitchen and cooking supplies, and bunk beds – everything you need for a comfortable stay. In the evening, swap tales from the day over a refreshing beverage and hearty dinner, then soothe your tired muscles in the sauna. In the morning, grab a cup of coffee, make breakfast, and it’s out the door to do it again!

It’s a 5 mile ski into the hut with a vertical gain of 1600 feet. The route follows a summer hiking trail and there are no snowmobiles allowed. A good portion of the hike is along a ridge with sweeping views of the Sawtooth Range.
