Winter Home

Winter in the Sawtooths is a quiet time. Snow blankets the Stanley area and accentuates the alpine look of the high peaks. It's a perfect time to get out and explore the mountains. The Sawtooth Mountains of central Idaho receive a good amount of moisture and our snowpack is generally deep. Few people are venturing and exploring the Sawtooth, which helps keep it a true wilderness ski destination. Lots of powder and few people is a backcountry skiers dream.

Sawtooth Backcountry Skiing

In winter we provide three services being Yurt rental, backcountry ski guiding and avalanche education. Our specialty is hut skiing at the Williams Peak Yurt, a traditional Mongolian shelter complete with bunks, kitchen, and wood burning stove. Renting the yurt can be done privately or with a guide.

Guiding is not limited to the yurt and day tours can take place in other areas surrounding the Stanley area, for example Galena pass or Banner summit, both offering exceptional touring opportunities.

We also offer a variety of highly reputable instructional programs on our Winter Calendar, including a full slate of avalanche education classes, and spring ski mountaineering camps.
